Sorry I did reply sooner we have had Internet troubles. My collection has around 850+ coins in it. All low grade, modern items. But the story of how I got is good. We were moving my grandma from Texas and she had some teddy bear banks that were full of coins. I thought just cash them into the bank, but my grandma said to go through them and look for errors. I had no knowledge of coin collecting at that time and when I pulled out the first coin and found out it was silver, I nearly fell out of my chair. At first I knew very little, but as I read some books and then discovered the forums, I have learned a lot and am still learning.

Wouldn't scare me away if I were a theif but may prove instrumental in getting me caught as I would most likely stick around to play with her for a few :p

Is a guard snake an effective security measure?

More importantly, if she's sleeping on piles of treasure, do you think she pretends she's a dragon?

Sorry, this is a TMI conversation. I'd suggest you don't document your collections all too well in here. It's one thing at a coin show or club meet with other collectors. It's a whole other ball of wax with unknown lurkers in the audience building up a hit list.

All very true but as Jeff Foxworthy said " size don't matter but it sure would take a long, long time to get to England in a row boat"

As for how many coins I will not confirm nor deny it's all relative by comparison through the eyes of someone else.

Merely posting on this site tells the world you have a coin collection, so that ship has already sailed.

To each his own, of course, when it comes to comfort levels, but I don't think anyone is increasing their risk by saying how many coins they have in their collection, as long as they don't provide a detailed listing.

Separate from Conder101's magnum opus on slabs of all types, I wrote the book Sample Slabs in 2015. If you have a question on samples, I am happy to try to answer it, either on this forum or in a private message.

My actual collection is somewhat less than a hundred coins my inventory of coins for sale is several hundred and I don't count junk silver etc. I focus more on high value individual coins than volume
