I found this coin in my pocket a while back and put it aside. I have done some internet searches but haven't really come up with anything. Its probably not worth anything but your input is appreciated! (Sorry for poor quality pics)
Take it to a jeweler. Or, if this is not just a passing fancy for ya: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...45573.m570.l1313&_nkw=gram+scale+.01&_sacat=0
What should it weigh if it is legit? I am just getting interested in coins again after being a big collector as a kid. Thanks for the help!
A nickel should weigh 5.00 grams. If your nickel was struck on a bronze cent planchet it would weigh 3.11 grams (the weight of a bronze cent). More than likely your nickel is a normal nickel that has tarnished, possibly due to some environmental exposure. Copper-nickel (75% copper & 25% nickel) coins tend to tarnish like yours when buried or left on the ground for an extended period of time.
I agree with this. A cent has a diameter 2mm smaller than a nickel, so if it were on a cent planchet, we'd see some part of the design missing.
