I'm looking for a good place to sell lower value coins - since the eBay's fee structure has changed. So anything starting from 99 pence up to £50. where do you guys sell your low value coins?
It's hard for me to see how people make money selling coins that are worth less than the cost of shipping and fees, but eBay certainly does move a lot of them. I've always figured that I would just aggregate them into lots to reduce total shipping, fees and effort, but I haven't sold much yet. (At least not since I got back into collecting. I was a Power Seller for several years about 10-15 years ago, but things were very different then, and I was mostly dealing with electronics and lab stuff.)
thanks for sharing Jwt708 -jeffB, you're right, if a lot sells for 99p, after ebays 35p insertion fee and then a 10% final value fee of 10p and the paypal feel of something like 23p plus a second class stamp at 55p and cost of an envelope, maybe 2p. 35p+10p+23p+55p+2p = £1.25 so it costs at least 26p to sell something on ebay for 0.99p before the fee restructure you could just whack all the coins on and at least you were not losing money. when the coins were sold for 99p a very slim profit depending on what you bought it for and if no sale it was free, so no harm done.
Coinzip charges $20 a month in fees. You'll have to sell a lot to make up that cost. Ebay is still your best bet. You could also try selling at a show, or local coin shop, or to someplace like Littleton or Apmex (or some other large dealer). You could also list here on this site, on the marketplace.
I've bought some coins on Webstore, which is free, but there aren't as many buyers so you have that problem. I can't say for sure about the British eBay but the U.S. one offers free listing promotions once a month or so. Your best bet is to take advantage of these. I never pay listing fees. And if you're selling low value items you just can't do free shipping. There's no way to make money if you do. I charge enough to cover the stamp plus some of the fees.
Some members of another forum I frequent have some lower value coins on etsy which is more of a vintage/craft site. No idea how much they sell or the fee structure.
I had a quick look on etsy, and saw quite a few numismatic coins mixed in with coin ear rings and other coin jewellery and artwork. as you say it is more of a vintage/craft site but still good to know about. thanks
facebook. FB has many coin selling groups and the only fee is how you get/receive payment - paypal etc fees.
I've gotten some good deals at Bonanza.com, there are a lot of former ebay sellers on there. Fees are a lot lower if your selling too.
@Clawcoins - do you have any specific facebook groups in mind? @Razmear - bonanza seems like the best alternative I've come across yet!
