I found "one" so far about a month or two ago--this one. I keep looking for others but I have yet to find another.
I checked my change pocket here in So. Cal. and 5 cents, one a 2016-D and 3 2015-D. Location. I doubt I will find a 2016 soon though.
I've got one in my hand right now. Unfortunately, it has the beginnings of a couple copper spots, but it's MS with good luster.
Ive heard west of the mississippi river is where the denver minted coins go and east of the mississippi river is where they distribute the philadelphia coins are distributed. I dont know how true that is. But i live in South Ga. And Ive noticed I get mostly "P" mint coins here In circulation
Same here in Oregon. Also, how often do you East Coasters get 68-74 S mints? I FOGed a 74-S two weeks ago.
I guess it's just fun to look for them but I can't say they are a collectable item. I'll get one in my silver proof set and that's good enough for me. Perhaps one day the silver set will be all silver, as it's wording pretends to be.
The 2016D's are turning up regularly in Loomis rolls North of San francisco. I get about ten 2015D's in most rolls. The stock of older coins is continually being diluted with new ones. I expect to find less, and less error coins as time goes by.
I dont look thru many rolls anymore. I do search my pocket change though. usually by this time of the year I have put away a couple of rolls, cents and some quarters. so far I have only gotten around 15 cents and three quarters a couple nickels and dimes. Here in Denver it seems that when I get change the attendants like to round up. and not give the correct change.( I call it laziness and have to correct them regularly)
