I find them in change now and then, and interestingly enough the ones i've been finding have shown very little to no wear at all! I got one a few weeks ago that was basically AU.

I assume it's because the people that hoarded them are finally putting them back into circ.

I've yet to find a worn 1976 quarter...yet i can find tons from the 80's that are very worn.

Reading this got me thinking. I've been saving nickels from my pocket change for a couple years now. Decided, just for fun, lets see if there's anything in there. Turns out I had about $3 in pre 1964 nickels in the lot. Nothing special but it just goes to show you, what is in your pocket everyday. Think my ealiest nickel was a 1943s.

I had an enjoyable hour or so yesterday looking through a roll of dimes. The latest date in the roll was 2001 and about half the roll dated from the 1970's. I guess someone must have finally cleaned out their dresser drawer!
Helas, nothing special, but did nick a few really high quality AU/BU 2000 and 2001 roosy's.

    2005D Lincoln Cent Die Crack?

Last week in change I picked up a 2005D Lincoln cent which appeared to have an
extended beard-like feature. On closer examination it appears to be a linear die crack
running across the coin (see line between the green bars.) Anyone concur?
Certainly an interesting coin, and I plan to keep it notwithstanding the artifact.

thats pretty cool! if that is a 1943S, it has some silver in it and are worth 75-90 cents! they made the silver ones 1942-1945.

1947S Nickel with what looks like a weak strike or something on the "A" in "America". I save every coin I find that is 1960 and back, I dont care where its from or its condition.

I actually have good luck with "off the ground" finds.

I've found about 4-5 wheat cents on the floor/sidewalk/street and also managed to find a 1956 Silver washington quarter on the side of the street right next to the curb at a red light.

i remeber when you found that 1956 wahington. i guess people get these in change and put them in their ashtrays in the ashes then dump them out with the ashes.:rolling:

I know it's sad, but the more people that neglect their change just means more opportunities for me to score something cool in circulation.

All my friends and family already know to save their change and let me look through it before cashing it in. I've found some wheats and pre-64 nickels this way.

Also i've taught my friends to scan their paper money for * notes and series 1995 and older notes. I usually buy what they find for face but one of my friends found a $100 star note and decided to keep it.

My favorite find was when I was stationed in Aberdeen, MD a few years back and a guy was having a hell of a time with a machine not taking his quarter in the break room. He asked if anyone had a quarter to trade him. I pulled one out and we switched. The quarter he gave me was a 52 D. I told him about it, but he didn't care. He was a bit of a jerk anyway. Mine now.

i see people get their change in stores all of the time. they don't even glance at it. that makes me mad because when i get change, i check the heck out of it. i guess thats kindof good bacuse if they get a buffalo in change, they will roll it up, take it to the bank i get nickels and i will find it! win win!:D i check all my friends change also. i made a list on paper what to keep and give to me. i told them if they find a wheat, i will give them 2 cents for it. they are always thrilled. i've told them to look for * notes and everything 1995 and older also. i have them save 1995 $1 bills for me because of web notes. i also tell them to keep any old style. i'll stop jabbering now.:D
