Guess it is "worth" more as a personal souvenir than in terms of $$$ Here is another picture of such a medal, from a recent online auction: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3037022944 The medal was issued to commemorate the 100th birthday of Wilhelm I. (born in 1797). In 1861 he became king of Prussia, and ten years later he was crowned emperor of the newly founded German Empire. He died in March 1888. Christian
If you actually want to sell it, don't expect much ... That auction I referred to in my previous reply ended at € 3.50; here are two current ones that you may want to follow: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3039622178 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3236166048 (Since the medals are offered at ebay.de, the descriptions are in German.) Maybe you can get a little more in the US than you could over here. How well a coin or medal is preserved also makes a huge difference. But with medals determining a "market price" is more difficult (than with coins) anyway. Bottom line: Expect $ rather than $$ or even $$$. Christian

Not his 100th birthday, but rather the 100th anniversary of same. A subtle but significant difference given that he died at the age of 91 (?). ;-) Ian
I have seen one of these medals. It is sometimes found in groups of military medals,as it is an official medal from Prussia.
Hi Richard. Yes, I am interested in collecting commemorative medals from my home state (Virginia, USA). I also find many things to be interesting, though, including Militaria. You bet I do! Those are absolutely beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us. I fixed your links, BTW.
OIC But wouldn't you then have to say 100th anniversary of the birth of Soandso? After all, a commem could as well be issued on the occasion of the xxth anniversary of the person's death. (Austria issued a coin on the occasion of Leopold Figl's "80. Geburtstag" one time. Well, he had died about twenty years earlier ...) Christian
