Good morning all from NE Florida. I've finally found a collection I've had since a was just a little boy. Grand Daddy giving my silver dollars.....ect. Along the way I've collected a little bit. But decades of 'here and there' have grown to now, I can take a few minutes and 'play' with them. Retired Navy. Disabled Veteran. Just like to speak to folks about what I have. What if anything the worth is. And just overall newbie knowledge.

If you know of anyone trustworthy in St. Augustine or South Jacksonville, Fl. area that would be fantastic.

    Have a great day everyone!

Hi Clifton and welcome to CT. This forum section is dedicated to answering questions about value so really if you just wanted to post away here with what you have, members will read it and give you a pretty good ball park value.

In general a lot of people out there have a little of everything and most anything rare and valuable had to be sought out and paid a hefty price for. Many old coins had high mintages and many have been saved. Basically condition is everything as you would imagine. Higher end stuff tends to be in third party grader, plastic slabs with labels. But not all. Anyway, if you're up to it share here what you have and people can help you. Take care.

Thank you all, everyone, for the wonderful welcome. Understand about posting. Again I'm a newbie that is excited.....great memories. Now, after many decades do I have the time to spend on 'having fun' with and maybe even liquidating something. Not sure yet. I'll take a little while and describe some of the 'things' I have and would please welcome any, and all comments. You all are the experts. Trustworthy. Thanks again for the welcome.

If you'd like to do some initial research on your own, these are a valuable resource for a newbie and not very expensive:
    http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/the-official-red-book-a-guide-book-of-united-states-coins-2017.html

You'll be able to find any US stuff you have in there. It's very well organized with ball park prices. The prices are within a few dollars on many items but can be off by a lot depending on the item. The more valuable parts are the mintage info, proper names of issues for you and some of the history at the beginning.
They make a new one every year but once you buy one, you're pretty well set unless you want an updated one for the latest mintage figures. A 2014 copy would serve your purposes just as well as the latest, but I'd buy the latest if it were me.

Perfect. I'm sure all of you have seen more rare coins, experienced much more than I ever will. Should be simple. Silver dollars, nickles, half dollars, and a few pennies that I protected. Nothing like a sunken ship with gold riches...hahahah! But fun.

    Welcome to the forum!

    Thanks for your service!

I'm going to have to re-image my Navy token. Actually I've got a bunch coming that need to be imaged as well. There's a couple other Navy guys around here (I'm Air Force).

You should learn how to take a decent picture and post images. It makes things a lot more fun and describing a coin is pretty worthless. There's tons of threads about coin photography and it can become a fun side hobby. It's like a whole other way to play with you coins!

Welcome aboard! Seems to be quite a few vet's out here (I'm a Marine, well I was a long time ago).

The knowledge some of these guys have here is scary smart! Don't be intimidated, it's all good. Most of them have forgotten more about coin, then I will ever know. Enjoy your stay!

Thank you all so very much. This looks like fun. Maybe there is some real value, if not , no worries. Just knowing that I have this and it survived all of these years is remarkable. Thanks everyone. And you too Marine. Thanks Brother for your service.

I think I'm going to have to go to Walgreen's and purchase a magnifying glass. Only then will I be able to 'see' what exactly I'm looking at. Of course with the correct lighting and then a picture with a small explanation. Thanks everyone.

Interesting, just the very first few coins I grabbed, Several silver dollars, more half dollars, then I found two silver quarters, 1964, and two pennies 1924 and 1942. Question. Is there some type of process to clean these coins as not to destroy the coin, value of the coin? How do or can I clean these up? Thanks, Clif
