Yesterday I had the pleasure of receiving this Syrian tet of Herennius Etruscus in the mail. Recently I handled a Hostilian of Viminacium, so I thought I'd put them together for a family picture.

The tet is scarce and beautiful, and no matter how many coins I've handled, I don't think I'll ever lose the thrill of holding the largest Roman silver coins...

I love these tets. They have a really hefty feeling in hand. A lot of coin for your money. I keep dabbling with them and then drifting away again but am always drawn back to them. Nice.

I haven't bought one for months. The search is back on thanks to this thread.

Yep! These coins feel like real money...Philip II, Antioch and Caracalla, Laodicea ad Mare.

That tet came to me through Brian Bucklan, who recently joined this forum, so he should also get some kudos for offering such a nice coin. Personally, if you're collecting 12 Caesars and/or Emperors one-by-one, I think you're better off with an Alexandrian or Syrian tet for Otho - you get more bang for your buck. The Imperial denarii are just sooo expensive in comparable grades.

Nice, I have one of him in tet form too. Got it cheap several years ago.

Actually, no, definitely NOT moving away from the Res Publica. Have some cool in-bounds that I will post soon to reaffirm that!

I am just filling in the slot of all the Roman Emperors. I did not have an Otho, and now have about 14 slots to fill in my Littleton Album Roman Emperors... Technically, I now have all the 12 Caesars (according to Setonius).

Almost bought that from Brian before I got my Denarius, but my denarius was a steal. But good to see you get it.

I don't think Littleton actually foresaw anyone filling up those albums, or they would have made the binding wider - an inch or so more would have done the trick.

I was thinking that when I saw the picture. I never knew they sold ancients. Not that I ever looked into it either.
