The photo is not sharp enough to tell for sure; yet the zinc color might indicate "pull-away" as I have read some posters here use.
I only see evidence of die deterioration. I've never heard the term "pull-away" and it describes a process that, as far as I know, is imaginary.
Hi Mike, I see a color change besides die deterioration over "Trust." I heard the term "pull -away" used in a forum. Perhaps it was used to describe the effect on a toned Morgan dollar that shows a "silver-white" untoned area next to the relief. Otherwise, it perfectly describes the characteristic seen on some coins such as zinc cents where the copper is "pulled-away" from the relief and the zinc is exposed when the coin was struck. I like the term. What do you think?
I think the term you are referring to is "split plating" but I won't say for sure - I'll have to go back and look it up
That works great too. How about plating break, plating spread, smeared plating, etc. I my start a new Contest on Monday: "Guess the Characteristic (GTC).
The "color change" appears to be crud stuck to the surface. Copper plating is not "pulled away" from the surface of a zinc cent. It splits due to tensile forces set up during the strike.
Guess I heard "pull away" with regard to toning. I want to use the correct term the error experts use so "split plating" works for me. After it splits during the strike it leaves what looks very much like a surface that is pulled-away from where it belonged.
Where exactly on the coin are you seeing this struck-through? It's hard enough for me I'm not clairvoyant.
Bad photo but I think it is the color change at 1 O'clock. Mike Diamond thinks it is crud on the coin.
I know the photos are not the best quality with the reverse of the coin has a slight bowl shaped extending out a little and stretch marks all around the monument to the letters and the same on the overs stretch marks from the letters down to Lincoln. Why do you think I post it see what people think maybe it's just a worn-out die but some of the photos I looked at of struck through resembled the one I'm showing that's why called it what I did. \V/
Don't know what to tell you haven't figured out how to show a o.500 mm depression in a coin yet it's work in progress, I just don't have the right photo equipment for the job. usmc
Okay see if you can work with this. Also take note at the stretch marks on the reverse on the crown ,Right now you have my best with the equipment I have to work with
