PCGS price guide values this coin at around 1300$, not a bad mark-up for the listing. But hey, for the asking price you do get almost 100$ in Ebay Bucks!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-P-FRAN...216627?hash=item43e15471f3:g:PqwAAOSwT6pV0-~X
"1960-P FRANKLIN HALF DOLLAR PCGS MS 66 FBL - LUSTROUS BLAST-WHITE BRILLIANT- 50c" Should be listed as Illustrous........
Wow, some of the things this forum dredges up on Ebay make me break out in hives... yeeesh... wow... I was NOT prepared for that price...
Priced it like it was one of the 2 pluses. Pop to high in that grade to push the price like that. Even if you say half are crack outs trying for 67 there are still over 30 of them.
But if you buy the coin at that price, just think of how happy you will have made the seller! And in the end, isn't that what really matters? Oh, but you would have been terribly ripped off.
I don't care if the toning is so brilliant it completely bypasses my optical system and directly impacts the visual processing area of my brain, I'm not quadrupling the retail value for it. Further, I don't think NGC would have offered it FBL - they're tougher on the designation than PCGS - for the number of marks obscuring the lines.
If you fish for big fish, sometimes you can catch big fish. 60-d is indeed very common but is scarce in gem, for some reason. Heritage sold a pcgs 66fbl pcgs cac 3 years ago for just over $3000 but clearly a pcgs cac will usually bring more than an ngc straight-grade. . The current greysheet bid level of 1000 makes it really hard to consider this price as being reasonable. 65fbl is only 190. And as far as the ddo part goes, it looks like machine doubling to me...just saying.
