    Hello everyone,

I recently have been looking to buy a draped bust dollar, just to have one. I don't want to spend a ton on it so I am looking for one in a lower grade but still a strong obverse. I know the reverse is terrible but something about the obverse really stands out to me. What do you think this coin is worth?

I'm no expert but am also interested in these. I'll take a crack at it.

    Obv: G-4, Rev: Poor

At the moment, I'm a purist and don't really believe in "averaging" the grades, so I'll say "Poor". Yet, I believe that most TPG's would give it an AG-3.

They seem to go for a nice little premium over Greysheet values. "Good" is $800 bid, so I'll take a guess and say a coin like that would go for $700 or $800.

    Am I close?

With the nicks on the back I am hoping it will grade, if I buy it I will probably send it in to get it slabbed. I do agree with you, and he is firm on $600. I might bite on it but I just wish the back was a little better.

I would like to have one myself but I'd pass on this one, save a bit more and buy a better one. I'm not sure if this would grade or not.

I don't think this one would grade due to the "A" letter looking scratch on the obverse. They would most likely hit it with "graffiti"

IMO, don't put money into stuff like this. You'll hate it after a while and then take a loss when you finally get another.

My best purchases for my type set have always been coins that were very nice for the grade. Each cost more than Graysheet and I was sick to my stomach for weeks thinking about every purchase. I loved them though and never traded-up. After a while, prices for all of them surpassed my cost. Every one (including dealers) who saw the coins wanted to buy them - even the VF's. Take your time. Often the "chase" is more fun than the "catch.";)

It is hard to pass up but I think that I am going to.. I don't know what it is but for some reason I really love the obverse. I may just keep looking and up my budget for another bust and getting some in a higher grade, probably a F or better.

I'll agree with insider . If you don't like it now you will grow to hate it . Save up and buy a better one with a stronger reverse . You'll be glad you did .
