i've had a coin of with geta or caracalla as a child on the list for quite some time. this one has a nicely detailed obverse, a so-so but cool reverse (means number 1 kid pretty much?), and a ragged flan. Oh-boy, chrsmat => that's a sweet OP-Geta!! (congrats, sweet trophy) Geta, eh? ... I think I have an example kickin' around here somewhere? Geta. As Caesar, AR Denarius AD 198-209 Struck under Septimius Severus, AD 199-204 Rome mint Diameter: 18 mm Weight: 3.36 grams Obverse: Bareheaded and draped bust right Reverse: Castor standing slightly left before horse, holding bridle and scepter Reference: RIC IV 6; RSC 12
I have a Geta... @Mat supplied me with this really cool one with a Horse and Rider... Geta PONTIF COS II, Geta on horseback left, spearing enemy below OH, and in this issue he has a LITTLE Beard... It is a cool denarius with a scarce reverse that I was able to pry from his paws! Looks like I have the VIOLENT one so far from this group!
Super coins, that one example from Laodicea with the "eagle" reverse, super cool. This poor guy, had a nasty Father (Septimus Severus) and even a nastier brother, Caracalla. His brother probably inherited the "killer instinct" from his Dad.
I like your violent reverse. My favorite Geta is this as with Geta leading two Equestrians. Geta seems to have liked horse types.
You know, those "under-chin-on-the-neck" style Roman Emperor beards have always reminded me of Fred Sanford on Sanford and Son!
That's a nice little Geta you snagged! Reminds me that I should take some pictures of the few I have. Yeah, poor Geta... always playing second fiddle.
Nice Geta's! Here's one from Odessos with emerald green patina. My avatar is also a Geta from Mothone in the Peloponnesus. Thrace, Odessos. Geta AE27 Geta AE27 of Odessos, Thrace. AY K PO CЄ-PT GETAC, laureate, draped bust right / ODHCCEITWN, Serapis standing left holding patera above altar, & cornucopia.
Chris, that is a great coin, and, like someone else said, he looks so sad. Almost makes you want to like him, eh?
thanks for posting your geta and young chap coins everyone! i always kind of think of geta as being young, but i guess he was only a year younger than caracalla. the bust on ancientone's coin looks very much like a coin of big brother. of course, his brother had something to do with the reason there aren't many coins of him as an older fellow didn't he?
