Anyone have experience with SKYLINE COINS? And on E-Bay: -Bubba SALLY -VETTE 1986 -GREAT SOUTHERN COIN?
I have never bought from any of them. However, some of our members have advised to steer clear of Great Southern. As far as Ebay goes, I totally stay away from raw coins.
Long time ago I once bit on one of Skyline's offers. I think it was advertised as a batch of XF Barber dimes. Figured even if they were VF the price was fair. Bad experience. None of them were horrid, but they were mostly F/VF with minor problems, one was whizzed, etc. I figured fair retail was about half what I paid, I returned them, was refunded promptly.
DO NOT buy from GSC. They are scam arists in sheep's clothing. I'm wondering if vette1986 Is Todd Pollock? If so I would not hesitate buying from him. I don't know anything about the other 2
Skyline has a nasty habit of using terms like "Premium Quality B.U." I have bought from them twice and then quit. These Premium B.U.s are usually sliders at best as mine were. Unless you buy slabbed coins from them I would be wary. I purchased a lot of of 5 of these in 1907 Indian Cents and they all turned out to have been cleaned. The price was low and so was the quality. No cartwheel effect whatsoever, just shiny. At that time they also did not issue refunds on sold out items, just a voucher. That was their policy. That was (my) experience, yours may be different.
I've fallen for the siren's song with GSC a few times. Every coin I got from them has been cleaned. However, they are quick to offer full refunds, so the risk is minimal. I'll have to check my records on the other ones. The vette seller sounds familiar...
It's been several years, but I have bought from Vette before. Had a bad transaction, but they worked with me until it was resolved...so I guess no issues.
I would not buy from GSC. Here's something I posted elsewhere: We've had limited dealings with this company on ebay. The raw coins they sell are guaranteed "authentic", but that's it. They do not guarantee that they haven't been altered. Both my wife and I have sent them emails inquiring about this, and none of our emails have ever been returned. We were interested in buying their coins, but had concerns that the coins could have been cleaned etc. We also expressed concern that their photos in some cases make their coins appear too good to be true. Many photos of especially the raw coins do look enhanced--and there is no guarantee that the coin is original! It is now 2016. I have purchased about a dozen raw coins from GSC and have had them professionally graded. So far, not one has been graded the way GSC graded it. Many aren't even close. I know they have 'experts' on board, but where are they? For example, I bought a 'Gem BU Red" 1909 VDB Lincoln. I expected it to grade out at about MS65 Red. NGC graded it 'Unc details, altered color'. Not good. A 1944 'Lustrous Gem BU Blazer' Walker came back AU58 from NGC. An 1897 S Morgan billed as a 'Gem BU++' coin came back only MS62, a far cry from MS65 or better. It boggles my mind that buyers are buying their raw coins, and in some cases are spending several thousand dollars, and are simply accepting GSC's grading opinion. These same folks leave glowing feedback without getting those coins graded first! Many perhaps don't get their coins graded at all. And many now own altered or overgraded coins--and are utterly clueless.
I would like to add this...Coast To Coast uses the same style as Skyline. I also recently purchased a large lot of Cable Shopping Network State Quarter sets, platinum plated and gold plated, at face value. All of the coins look circulated inside the cases. I am trading them off at a slight profit on another venue other than the Bay and describing them properly of course.
