What Would You Suggest For Future Quarter Programs?

I've said in earlier posts, that with the end of the current quarter and Presidential programs that I am finished with Mint & Proof sets. But I could change my view. For those of you that do like the current program and even those that do not, what would you suggest for future issues? If these future programs were more limited in scope, say 20-25 different in each new series, I might be enticed to reconsider. Here are a few of mine I would like to see...
1. Great Americans Series- would include Nobel prize recipients, women who made significant contributions, great writers & artists, etc.
2. American top cars of all times and their designers.
3. Endangered animals series.
4. Historic American Flags series.
5. Signers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution series.
Granted not all of these would have 20-25 because of the limitation/numbers of people who signed the documents for instance, and maybe not all my choices are good ones, but it would be interesting to hear your serious thoughts on this. Thanks folks.

Tommy, I really like the topic, and the historic American Flag series suggestion, especially. Just the other day I got a trivia question wrong about the US flag. It was "Did it always have 13 stripes?" Correct answer is "No." There was once 15 stripes when two states were added to the original 13, but they went back to 13 when more states were omitted as the powers-that-were thought it would become cluttered-looking.

A few other suggestions: historic American forts, historical Native Americans, early North American colonies, famous airplanes, in other words, something other than dead presidents.

With the World War II veterans passing on and the ever-present threat of modern educators declaring that war "irrelevant" how about a series of coins depicting historic U.S. battles, ships, planes and leaders of the war (excluding Eisenhower and Roosevelt who already have their own coins). It might be a good way of interesting young people in WWII.

 

There is, to me, only one thing that the quarter should be right after the Tuskegee Airmen - "Return to the Eagle". Maybe a new eagle, but darn it, just go back to an eagle.

 

I would like to see anything WWII related but I got the feeling the designs are going to be botched and there will be another boring series no one cares about.

I`d like to see "iconic obverses" from older coins of various denominations, starting with things like Draped Bust and all the way to Barber's Liberty and Indian Head cent and Mercury Head/Winged Liberty from the dime. Nothing to ruin, they all already look great and modern engraving would probably make them look even nicer. Might get some people start thinking how did the originals look, possibly even draw a few into numismatics.

 

That will never "fly" as who decides what? The special interest groups with all the money, the EPA - who the heck trusts them?, Endangered in the US or world wide?

I say the quarters have been screwed with long enough - just get a nice design and run with it!!!

 

Hmm. 2021, huh? Maybe given that a 2nd term might be starting, maybe things that made America great again?

 

The mint has already issued an marvelous medal for these fine fellows.......

Rather the place honoring the Airmen is the last ATB. Apparently Alabama lacks many places under National Park Service care. I nominate Werner VonBraun's office at Redstone Arsenal, and when it is no longer in service, the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

 

Boy, he was spirited away from the Nazis real quick, wasn't he? I wonder how many allied troops and innocent civilians were killed by this guy?......not worthy of anything spiritually. To the US space program he was essential, but oh how we overlook certain things, don't we? Not worthy of commemoration in my book.......

 

"Greatest failed dollar coins." They could re-strike all of the SBA, Sacajawea and Presidential dollar coins on quarters and then they would at least finally circulate.

 

I'm sure the sons and daughters of the victims of the Nazi rocket attacks on London would appreciate us honoring old Werner.

 

Some random thoughts:

1. American inventors
2. American jazz or folk musicians
3. American space flights
4. Battles and/or major events of the American Revolution
5. Native American tribes - hard to determine which to include and which to leave out, so that may be a non-starter
6. Historic American athletes
7. Notable Supreme Court cases - very difficult to represent on a quarter
8. Civil rights figures and/or major events
9. Famous buildings - past and present
10. Major sister/brother cities between the US and the world

 

Yeah, but without Werner, there would have been no moon landings. He became a U.S. citizen. Even the new SLS launch vehicle that is being static tested and creating the refit of the VAB and launch complex 39 at Canaveral right now, borrows heavily from Werner's design.

 

All great topics Steve. I always go searching for forts and lighthouses whenever I vacation. And political correctness here aside, we need to do more for the Native Americans, perhaps famous chiefs? Thanks for the input.

I really have my fingers crossed for a State gold dollar series and a Presidential quarter series.
