A sucker for a good magazine actually.

Since I'm no longer in the PNW I let my membership in OlyCC lapse. But I miss them...

A long time ago, child, before you were born, information was distributed on pieces of paper marked in ink.

Paper was manufactured by cutting down trees, grinding them up and adding water to create a fibrous mass. Through a process of squeezing out the water and drying, flat 'sheets' of were created. This is paper.

Ink is a purpose created substance that can be applied to paper and leaves a permanent mark. Many substances could mark paper - for example the grease from your bicycle chain could be used - but unlike 'ink' these do not dry and can be smeared or smudged.

Just like the fonts on your smartphone or tablet, information could be displayed on paper. But once written it was permanent.

Automated equipment would take many of these printed pages and bring them together (it was called binding) into a single entity. Sort of like a tablet. One could read each page at a glance and through a mechanical swiping action view adjacent pages. You could even skip or (through a process of estimation and step-wise refinement - look those terms up on Wikipedia) go to a specific page.

These were called "Magazines" and "Newspapers" or publications. However, there were no electronics involved in them until a publication called Esquire used a display panel on it's top most page (called a 'cover') in October 2008.

The ANA isn't very expensive , especially for YN s . It enables you to borrow books that would or could cost a small fortune , take classes at a discount , get's you in the ANA shows free and of course a great magazine . I would !!!!!
