Thanks, one thing that I am puzzled by, why do the Lions in Lydia have a nob on their nose!

I may be completely off track but I wonder if that is related to the Royal Warts seen on Parthian kings. I do not know when it started but at some point such growths were considered signs of power.

I'd love to get ahold of one of these 6-7th century BCE Lydian coins, just because they're some of the first coins ever minted. I've seen one or two for sale on VCoins, but I'm not prepared to spend the money just yet. :)

I regret that I have no Ancients in gold... yet... However, I only have this bronze from Lydia:

My tiny example is a 'budget' example from Mysia, just north of Lydia....and I grabbed it simply because it's one of the oldest examples of coinage with the typical Boar/Tunney and lion devices----hemiobol, 550 BC.

I love the designs, seems these earliest of coins had such a neat array animals/Gods/Mythical beasts on them! All of them very rare....these coins are very underpriced....lucky for us! When you compare to US coinage, ex: 1933 Double Eagles there are now 2+1+10=13 specimens. Price 7 MILLION$. Your coin, probably less then 10 known.

Seems these guys really like "Tunny" fish. What is a "Tunny fish" Tuna?
