Sir the 1878 is waiting for you at your PO Box. Please contact me before you decide to use any chemicals on this coin. :blackalien: \V/

You got me, I have to ask why would you not include an error that would distinguish your coin from all the other vam 2 A's ? :blackalien: \V/

Because die cracks are very common on morgans and nothing more than a way to possibly confirm a vam or die state. Nobody really cares about them. Let's see what messydesk says about the coin. Be patient.

cascada Sir as stated before I agree with you there's plenty of die cracks in the Morgans that are no big deal as such in photographs 08 and 09 but unfortunately I have not seen None of these die cracks in Morgans as of The one in photograph o18 and 001. I think 14 years is being patient :blackalien: \V/ 1787cc-18.jpg 78cc 001.jpg

That doesn't look like a die crack and definitely isn't a chip. My guess is messy will say it's gunk or a stain. Let's wait for him to inspect it

Well if were going to go to fantasyland here and not actually look at the photo I would say it looks like a kite with a long squiggly tail or a stingray. But actually looking at the photo I see somewhat of a circle with something that looks like the surrounding metal even with the design element in it, now a foreign piece of material in that circle to get the same color as the outside and that same design elements does not seem likely to me. Not trying to be hardheaded about this, but error identification is an essential part of any error coin collector, I may miss a large part of the terminology which I'm sure other members will definitely agree with including yourself, and my eyesight may be diminishing in my old age but I'm almost right on my visual identifications. I will not say which member indicated that he does not always agree with one expert I found that I did not agree with this person on his findings of one coin submitted to him, and since I was sending another coin to him for his personal examination I requested that i send the coin in question for his re-examination, after examination evidently he was seeing what I was seeing and reclassified that coin. And evidently this 1878cc is one of those coins it's hard to believe it even I had a hard time when I first looked at it. Which started me on a quest over 14 years ago when i acquired this coin. messy Will be the first official person to examine this coin besides myself. And I'm sure his stereo microscope is a lot better than my stereo microscope but I have no doubt he will see exactly what I'm seeing, I should know something in the next couple of days the middle of the week.:blackalien: \V/

How rude of me. I left out photos of the coin in question, Messydesk did a fine job on slabbing this coin.:blackalien:

Nice analysis from Leroy. It was a puzzling coin, but what he says makes sense.

In a way I agree with you. But if I go with what Leroy says, one question comes in mind if what his saying about a compressed piece of silver causing these three anomalies. I have found a 95% of the cases where cold compression is involved in coins, the compression debris does not stay affixed to the surface of that coin or can be removed with a rose Thorne or some sharp instrument. But I do have coins especially the ones with the rim impressions that are so fused you cannot removed. But visually they look nothing alike. What I'd like to get is a CAT scan on this coin with a 3-D interpretation of each anomaly. I think that would satisfy my doubts on these anomalies. I totally agree with what Leroy says makes sense and is possible but a couple of factors do not line up. messydesk thank you for your help with this coin.USMC60
