Machine Doubling or DD?

    I see some of this on the T's on the reverse of cents and can tell it's MD, but this looks more ''full" not the typical shelf-like of MD, with some on the D and a split on the bottom of the S. Is it still MD? Thanks.

    Thought I would go ahead and answer though at the moment I can't tell you exactly what it is. What I can tell you is what it isn't. It's not a doubled die and I don't think its MD'ing. I have found coins like these and have read the explanation of what caused it but just can't pull it out of the noodle . A type of die deterioration seems to ring a bell but not sure.
    Will try and hunt it dowm in my reference materials
