When I was a kid in grade school, I remember one of my favorite teachers telling me that when I'm older, my kids will be asking me for the keys to the flying car and that I will probably be able to visit space as a tourist. I turned 49 yesterday and I can for sure that the kids don't borrow a flying car and it looks unlikely I will ever be able to visit space. Being unlikely to be able to do that is truly one of the great disappointments of my life, and there really aren't many. I fully expected it to be commonplace by my age, and frankly, it should have been given the astounding pace of technological advancement in travel the first 1/2 of the 20th century! Hopefully, my kids can someday.
I know what you mean; however, I'm pushing the 70 mark (still a couple years to go). As I look around, I'm very disappointed in many of the ways the people of the world have evolved. I have a new grandson, and I'm frightened for his future. I hope I am wrong.
Space looks kinda cool, but it looks very "dark and bleak" ... => I'm hoping that Earth is still the cool place to be in a few hundred years!!
