I was able to get mintage figures on the State Quarter Rolls from the mint. The numbers range from 32,000 to 77,000 approx. Since there is still question on quality difference between mint rolls and bank rolls, this must be the reason why they are going for soooooooo! much more than the bank rolls. Like Real Estate the buyer always sets the market and right now the market for state quarters is red hot and prices are being set on ebay. I know skeptics will say that the baloon will burst in about 4 to 5 years, but with low mintage numbers I feel as though they have a chance to hold. In addition its amazing that rolls in a unopened box seem to go for a premium. Go figure!

    BWJR -

I'd be interested in knowing what the numbers are for the specific coins. Sooner or later somebody else will ask the same question. So if ya don't mind - either post them here or send me a PM. Please ! :D

I haven't started collecting any of the ultra-moderns yet but those who do keep telling me that there is no difference between the mint rolls and the bank rolls. Of course they could well be wrong and even if they're generally correct there's a good chance it's not correct in every case. It's also possible that they are talking about the highest quality rather than average quality or some other gauge.

It is possible that the mint rolls are trading largely on their status of original packaging. There is great precedent for this. There's a Japanese mint set that sells for $500+ but contains coins with a total value of only about $20.

While the mintages you quote are low, it should be remembered that most coin collectors do not collect rolls, bags, original packaging etc. If you enjoy these then by all means collect or save them and there's a good chance you'll do well on them. If you have little interest in them, the odds are good that other collectors won't either and any "investment" in them is risky.

Who still questons the difference between bank rolls and mint rolls? The mint clearly states that these coins are not special in any form or fashion. Too many collectors allow their perception of this myth to alter their ability to understand.
If you want quality ........ it will have to come from a mint set. These are the only circulation strikes not dropped into hoppers, upsetting mills, riddler machines, and dumped into a huge canvas bag with thousands of other coins.

Please, Mr. National Dealer, don't give out too much info. If you do you're going to drive the mintage numbers way up. Please everybody keep this info on the QT. I only did it as a public service to the board.

    Thanks,
