I am looking at a Dime. This coin jumps out as a missing its clad layer obv. What kind of premium would this coin get, if real. I have not put a Loupe on it yet. He is a Jeweler, He understands what he might have I want to jump all over the coin but, dont want to make a mistake. Anything to look for?
Without a photo, it can be hard for anyone to positively identify. The side missing the clad layer could appear to be anywhere from red to brown in color depending on how it was handled in circulation. Check Fred Weinberg's website to see if he has any listings for dimes missing the clad layer to get an idea of retail pricing. Chris
It cartwheels out of the case. yes it is red and brown. does anyone have a pic of what the reeding should look like?
If it's missing the full clad layer, the reeds would only show one copper and one nickel layer. If you are seeing a normal three layer clad in the edge, be careful, it may be plated.
