Can anyone tell me if the Federal Reserve bank in Chicago has both P and D presidential Dollars. would rather save myself the headache of sitting in traffic getting there and finding only Denver issues.
I've not tried to get coins directly from the Chicago Fed, but I would guess they do not have the D... since the Chicago 'source' is Philly... Guess you could call first and find out...
As far I know, no one is allowed to just go to the FRB and pick up coins. From what I understand the FRB's ONLY do business with the other banks in their area. Speedy
I agree with Speedy, save a trip and call first, I don't think that they take 'over the counter' transactions.
According to the Fed's website, you must have an account to perform a cash transaction. Call to find out if there are exceptions for special issues like the presidential dollars. And while you have them on the phone, ask about the P and D availability.
As an alternative, call around to local banks and ask them to look in the Teller's drawers for the mint mark. I've seen both P and D in the Chicagoland area, although P has been more scarce for me.
I live in Chicago as well, and have only seen the 'D' prez dollars out of a hundred or so rolls I've fruitlessly searched.
exchanges we should have a thread that we can exchange (P) mint mark for a (D) mint mark. and vise versa. what you think?.
Peter has already posted a recommendation that anyone interested in trades should use the Open forum to advertise for partners. Two members who have P coins have already posted inquiries. As the late Lawrence Welk would have said, aone and another from the same guy and atwo. I wonder why no one with Ds has a posting.
