Hi all, i am focusing in Hadrian as you friends know, this one i had to buy from a fellow detector friend. probably found in France. Reference. SNGCop 1190, SGI 5396. RPC 1, 1711 Obv. KAISAROS SEBASTOU, Bare head of Augustus right. BASILEWS ROIMHTALKOU, Jugate heads of King Rhoemetalkes & Queen Pythodoris right 6.87 gr 24 mm
Love the type, and have one myself Augustus and Rhoemetalkes, Bronze Semi autonomous coinage of Thracia, c11BC-12AD KAISAROS SEBASTOU, Bust of Augustus right BASILEWS ROIMHTALKOU, Busts of Rhoemetalkes and his wife right 9.82 gr Ref : Sear #5396 Q
Very nice coins, and an important part of early Imperial history, although my understanding is that these are very regional issues. A metal detecting find in France would be highly unusual, but certainly not impossible - a coin lost by a traveler that had passed through Thrace? I had a very finely-engraved example of the two-bust types last year (sans queen)...
i recently bid on a triple bust and lost...at first i thought you were the winner of the auction until i saw it was a detector find. this type is pretty up there on my list...nice pick up oki~!
