I was going to say MS 67+ before the reveal....debated giving it a 68 but figured it might have been a nice value example found at half a grade lower...68 seems fair on this one; you don't tend to see Morgans this clean in 65, 66, or even most 67 holders.
One of my best Morgans that I have ever owned was an 1880s MS 67+. It was a great coin. Is this one better? Hard to say. The price jump from 67 to 68 is huge. Is it worth it? Also hard to say.
If one is looking for the best value, 67+ is the point before the big jump in price. And 66+ is the point where even more can get in the door on a very nice coin. However, if you want something top of the line, then a 68 is a good choice (especially since there are so few 69 graded examples and those are extremely expensive).
I almost bought the MS 69 1881s ex Jack Lee, when that collection was broken up. At that time, it was about $9000 for the coin. I decided that the 67+ was a much better value point, and was a fabulous coin. I have it posted somewhere here in the archives. My current 1881s is a 66+ PL. that has been posted here before. Balancing magnificent coins with value is often a hard decision. I am glad that I have so many beautiful moderns that are MS and PR 70, as they are great value to dollar purchases.
You were way to quick on the reveal. I was at 68+. "but i didn't design bathrooms into my floorplan either." Ed Wood Well done that's a lovely Lady!
