Calling all Ike experts. I believe I have a Type 2 here, based on the earth on the reverse. Am I correct? Thanks.
Better Pic please? Who can tell with these Pics. If you could provide us with a clearer Pic that would be AWESOME!!
You have the Type II Bicentennial dollars. I can tell by the thickness of the letters in “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The Type I letters are thick, and Type II letters are thinner.
You have the coin in hand, compare it against the three types for 1972 https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1346.html
Not too sure that this correlation/diagnostic is correct...I will get back after reviewing. edit: I stand corrected. The Type II letters are thinner than the Type I letters. The difference is not as drastic (or reliably distinguishable IMHO*) as the 1976 Type I and II letter thickness differences. *note that the three images presented at the Numista link provided above seem to show that the Type II letters are thicker than Type I, which supports my thinking that it is an unreliable diagnostic. Numista Type I... Numista Type II... Numista Type III...
Are these any better? Looking at the coin in hand, I believe it's a type 2, but was hoping for confirmation. Hopefully these show the islands better on the earth:
I guess you guys are right - the ridge on the earth that goes from 3 0'clock to 6 o'clock appears on the Type 1. I was looking mainly at the Caribbean islands. Darn. @Snowman - what's up with the Type 6 in your post? I thought there were just 3 types. Where's type 4 and 5?
thanks for the question on Type 6 - here is a link from Variety Vista on the different Eisenhower types. The 1972 uses only type 1,2 and 3. Type 6 is only for 1971 D. Sorry for the confusion but I like that picture - gives a quick closeup Earth view. http://www.varietyvista.com/13 Eisenhower Dollars/Reverse Design Varieties.htm
