Definitely the top arrow feather of a 21. If the date is 188 something it's likely a fake.

I found out a trick when trying to decipher dates. Slant the coin and take a picture with bright flash.

My eyes saw '190" which considering my eyes, probably eliminates that combination.

    It's either an 1881 or 1921 to my eye, but, I am not 100% IMAG1316_1.jpg IMAG1311_1.jpg IMAG1279_1.jpg

Heavy I don't think a scope would help, try this as you can't hurt the coin. Thin skin paper rub a soft pencil lead or charcoal over the paper on the coin see if you can get a transfer. :smug:

We all learned that from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade :p

That reverse - those arrow fletches - were only used in 1921....

I guess I forgot to mention Super, that not only were you right, but it was nice to know what I had before I got a good look at it...

I'm just back into Philly after the day in Baltimore, and decided to stay out for a while - the city is hopping after the beatdown Villanova stuck onto Oklahoma and I feel like partying. Hope it looks that clear on my monitor when I finally get home. :)

That is an amazing level of wear. Imagine all the pockets that thing has been in - to wear coin silver down that far - wow! I love it!

Now you know why lowballs are so popular. Aside the registry nonsense that is

    Cool, ain't it? :)

When you think about how long it took - how much sheer handling - to get a coin that worn (how many Lowball Moderns do you see?) it really brings home the historic aspect of what we do.
