I just was going over today's new finds and I noticed something special about this one. 1887 P Vam -12A. This is a top 100 Morgan Vam's. Doubled" Liberty" Alligator eye, Clash Obv. die and an R-5 to boot! Best of all it's toned and was the cheapest Morgan I purchased today. $50 NGC MS- 63 BTW Heavy.... I attributed this one without any help from the spirit world.
Nice find Paddy!!! I can envision you at the big shows running around up to your a__ in alligators.....
Nice. I have a nice fiery toned 12a. While awesome the alligator eye is a starter vam of sorts. Like the spitting eagle, they are very popular and have prominent features with cool names but with enough around to keep premiums down. Nice find for a 50 spot though! Has anyone else ever thought they should be called the "nictitating membrane eye" though? I know, not as catchy
True however I'm happy with the find,as I knew this coin was a winner, but must admit I didn't find out till later last night. I'm more a fan of smaller shows, less distraction and more time to do a relaxing search. Large shows are great for fresh inventory from the area where you live. But overwhelming trying to cover all the tables and dealers. But I'm happy with at least a $100 return on my investment and a cool vam.
T Then happy you shall be I know what you mean about large shows. Even though I live only an hour+ away, when I go to long beach I pony up a few hundred for a close hotel so I can just walk there and stay all 3 days. The first day is just crazyness and networking and saying hi etc, the second day is "the search" and the third is "the clean up"... By the end of the damn thing you feel like you just played in the world series. Then you get home and see if you "won" a championship ring I'll see if I can dig up pics of my 12a for you
Nice coin for sure..... I'm busting for UnCommonCents he called me about 45 minutes ago from a show.... he scored big time! Wait till he post his find. I venture to say that he doubled his money to say the least and hadn't left the show! WTG truly a Cinderella story
Now, I feel like an "Outsider." I've never seen one of those slabs. Nice. I thought the TPGS "missed" the obvious as they often do.
What do you mean? If your talking about the sticker on the back that's Messydesk's sticker from his company "Variety Slabbing Service" (VSS) He attributes all vams as the top 2 only label attribute list vams. Me personally, I submit coins without vam attribution even the list ones then.have john put his sticker on it. They carry more weight!
Well @Messydeck's idea is excellent. I'll bet the "big Boys" copy it unless it is patented! If I were a TPGS, I should have
