This submission consisted of 10 coins, an assortment of Civil War Tokens and US Coins. Here we go! John Grether (Columbus, O) OH-200A-3a R-7 XF-Details (Environmental Damage) Didn't really care about the grade - just wanted authenticity. A rare coin from a popular city where tokens rarely change hands (other than the usual suspects). Heintz & Henkle (Columbus, O) OH-200B-3a R-5 (Cleaned) Again, was more concerned about authenticity. But if they were going to clean this guy, I wish they'd done a better job! J.M & V. Koerner (Columbus, O) OH-200C-2a R-5 VF35BN Thrilled with a problem free grade on this one! Another tough one from Columbus. S.T. Martin Eating House (Columbus, O) OH-200D-1a R-3 AU50BN This is one of the previously mentioned "usual suspects." This is the most common issuer from Columbus, and this die pair is one of the easiest to find. I have six Martin tokens with three die pairs - glad to have a nice problem free grade - I have an uncirculated of the same die pair that was obviously dipped. Wiatt & Bro (Columbus, O) OH-200J-2a R-5 XF45BN Another tough Columbus token. I got this one from Hayden's shop, so no surprises on the grade - spot on his estimate, and a problem free coin. It pays to shop with the best sometimes.
This next one was a bit of an experiment. When I purchased the token, it was fairly covered in verdigris. I used petroleum jelly to lightly rub the green off, rinsed it with organic dish soap, and treated with Verdicare. I knew this was a questionable procedure, but I wanted to see if this procedure would pass the PCGS sniffer. Problem free grade! D. Kreps (Perrysburg, O) OH-725B-1a R-6 AU58BN Being from Perrysburg, this is a particularly neat token to me. The town only has two issuers. I'm amazed the token came back as high up the grading scale as it did - I was expecting a solid XF, but I tend to grade conservatively.
Next were my two Two Cent coins. Both from Brian Greer, so no worries. The 1864 came back slightly higher than expected, and the 1868 was right on. 1864 2C Large Motto - AU50BN 1868 2C - XF45BN
Last, a little silver. These two were in my "keep or sell" pile, and I was very much on the fence. I knew both were questionable, and I was almost certain the Morgan had been cleaned, but I tossed them both on the submission on a whim. Glad I did: 1903 Morgan - Uncirculated Details - Cleaned Tell my momma I'm not just a pretty face! 1992 Silver Eagle - MS68 This one was the surprise of the bunch! I was kind of suspicious of the toning, but again, I though what the heck - thrilled with a straight grade!
