63 too many obv flecks (black spots) rev: steps have too many hits, and a possible scratch from E in cent north
It would be 64RD, tops, without that scratch. Between the scratch and the spots on the obverse, I'll say 63RD.
The spots and small cuts hurt it, the way I understand how they market grade. I don't see wear, so I think it's surely MS. Rule of thumb, if you will, the smaller the coin, the less needed to bring down the grade. I'll say it gets MS63, what the heck?
Okay, I've heard/seen enough! I completely agree with each of you. Now someone please tell me how in God's name this grade is justified? Don't get me wrong, you pulled my butt out of the fire on this one!
I was caught between the grade and the coin. I'm not an expert but I know you should always buy the coin, not the slab. My gut just couldn't match the grade to the coin. I was even looking to see if the slab had been tampered with. I had a feeling ICG was questionable, not being one of the top two. My instinct said it was "way" over graded....but that 67 just kept pulling me closer. Not being an expert, I was completely wrapped around the axle on this. The coin was at local consignment shop. There was a $100.00 price tag on it. If it was an actual 67, that was a great price! There was a little old lady (she looked like she was 90) working in the shop all by herself. I pulled out a $50.00 bill and sat it on the counter. I asked her if she would take fifty dollars for a penny...........she smiled and took it. Which gave me a sinking feeling, I just screwed up! If the coin is a 63 or 64 like you guys say, I took a hit. But not as bad as if I had paid the price for a legitimate MS67. The thing that makes me feel good, is that it's my first and probably only 67 slab. Thanks for the feedback!
