Found a few 76d t1 peg legs in my stash. Do they look like the high peg leg listed on IDDD? http://www.ikedollardoubleddie.com/variety-coins.php Here's solo pics from left to right. 2 pics of each coin. The first and third look similar but the 2nd looks a little more abraded
ALL, 1976 Type 1 IKE's are Peglegs by design. The trick is in finding those where the leg has been abraded away. But then, you probably already know this. Called OAK Peglegs (Off At the Knee) they usually only bring a premium in higher grade coins. The coins you're showing have nice luster but only coin #2 would be a keeper IMO. One I have is below although it's iffy in the OAK Department. I purchased an "unsewn" bag of 1972 IKE's some years back for around $1,800 that had several of the 1972 T1 Peglegs in it which are at the top of Tom's page. Funny thing was that the bag consisted of Type 3 coins except for these 10 or so T1 Coins but I figured the previous owner either picked out some nice T3's, or perhaps some error's or maybe some Type 2's. But, whatever. I still have a few of these left after giving several away in open auctions. (Lesson Learned! What lesson, I'm not sure. Lesson on actual value? Lesson on open auctions? Lesson on taking someone's word for it? Unknown) BUT, the thrill of discovery is all that really matters.
Yeah lee, I figured the second was a true OAK but the other 2 are still abraded compared to a normal 76 seen below. You wouldn't think if I sent all 3 to anacs that the other two wouldn't come back as true peg legs? Normal 76d R...
You have nothing to lose, even if they don't, you can sell them as a early die state, for the peg leg . Hell, they do it for vams ..
