KD - I think the parts of currency are interesting. I can see a Roman Soldier at a bar demanding change for your coin. Not quite the same as cut coins, but pieces of the original. A part of a cast coin and parts of bars. I posted my half asses yesterday, so will not re-post them today. part of a bar and part of an Aes Grave Sextans I liked the designs on this plate of bronze that was broken for manageable pieces.
. . . . . . . . . and a few of my 'cut' silver pennies, (now 'half' pennies) . . . . King Henry III King Henry III King John King Richard III
Certainly such a coin could be used to identify a courier or someone needing introduction to a person who would be given the other piece and I could write an episode of Game of Thrones using this plotline which could possibly seem authentic. However, if I were writing a history pretending to be factual, I'd probably go for the random vandalism theory. The fact remains that it is never possible to prove something is impossible without running the chance that some fool will find a way to prove you wrong. Always remember that science can 'prove' that bumblebees can't fly.
Nice cuties! I, also have no "cut" coins...sorry. I do have one that was "clipped" by someone, unaware of the horrible penalties they faced if caught!
