I have a silver certificate here. Now I've heard that you can get something called a "star note", how do you tell a "star note" from a standard certificate?
do you see that lttle star shaped thing close to the serial number that means its a star note and so is yours
Wait... I have a star note? I would never have known it. I've had the thing for years... Knowing this, is there any better way for me to store this thing? Right now, I have it stored in a plastic folder with my uncirculated 2 dollar bill.
Many coins shops carry currency holders. About 30 cents or so. Get one for each note that you have. Make sure and specitify that you want INERT holders. Just like coins PVC is a BAD thing. If you can't find any PM me and I'll send you a few for the cost of a stamp.
I think there are also Silver Certificates that are also Star notes (replacement banknotes,which are printed to replace a faulty one) as well,but they'd be pretty pricey. Aidan.
Try and get yourself a copy of the official Blackbook Guide to US paper money prices :thumb: It is a very good read as well as a price guide. That is a lovely note that you have there :thumb:
Hate to tell you this Aidan but the note pictured is a Silver Certificate Star note. 1957 Series and not that tough to find at a show or even a local dealer. Nice note, don't get me wrong - in CU around $10 or so. On June 24, 1968 you could no longer redeem Silver Certicates for real silver so people hoarded them. Most of what was kept were 1957, 57A and 57B series. A good lot of later 1935 notes saved as well. Currency is a totally different animal. Notes from the same "year" can be printed for several years. It depends on who is the Treasurer of the United States or Secretary of the Treasurer. If the note retains the same design but a signature changes a new series is born.
nice note! my dealer sells star silver certifictes for about $8 in that condition. i'm sure they are worth more tough.
Radar notes have a serial number that reads the same forward and backward, eg. 145626541..... Repeaters are repeating sequences, eg. 13131313..... Fun stuff to fifnd, but not easy to find. Paul
