A cool little gift from a friend. I have searched this script but not finding alot about it. I am assuming it's June 1919. Its from Floyd county KY which isnt far from where I live so I hope I can ask some elders around here and see if they know about it if I cant find more info on the web.
That is the patent date of the token not the date used Look up the local histroical museum they usually will have an abundance of info. Here are a couple more sites. http://www.nps.gov/biso/learn/historyculture/scrip.htm http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyperry3/Scripts_by_Freddie.html and here is the collectors group: http://nationalscripcollectors.org/Darestory.html
Actually I am from Prestonsburg, but we went to Auxier High School sometimes, just for something to do. Living in Southern CA, my daughter was in a Girl Scout troop when a girl named Tracey Auxier joined when her family (military) moved to town. She was amazed I knew how to pronounce her name "correctly" and she said that it was her great-grandfather that was one of the founding fathers of Auxier.
Reno Nevada Mapes Hotel-Casino Chip from the early 1960's: Mapes Hotel-Casino Reno Five Dollar Chip Two people in western dress Hotel Mapes / CASINO / RENO $5 NEVADA Blue plastic, 39mm, 10.62gm The Mapes Hotel and Casino opened in 1947 in Reno, Nevada. It was the first hotel-casino combination in the country. It closed in 1982 due to competition from larger and more modern casinos. The building was torn down in 2000. Chips similar to this one appear in the 1961 television program "Route 66" episode "Eleven The Hard Way".
I picked up the below pieces of exonumia while I was at the Academy and thought I would toss 'em in here: I found this key chain. It reminded me of the ones we were given at McChord, see below: I also bought this challenge coin (ya, not really a challenge coin but it's like one and I like the term better than medal):
Nice! Raytheon made us small and a large Patriot fire unit out of 22kt gold. I wish I could have kept one. But $250.00 Hammer Were exposed All military had to return any connection between military contacters gifts.
It may belong in the bullion section but I know some of the other collectors that frequent this thread will like this. I picked it up at the LGS for the grandsons birthday he was born on the 4th of July. It is minted by the sunshine mint! They still haven't gotten any tokens in.
Great stuff, Jack. I particularly like the Ramstein piece. I'll be going to the Baltimore show next week, and will be sure to check in with Paul Cunningham and others. Who knows, might get lucky. Bruce
Hey @BRandM (Bruce) - I haven't seen much from you lately...except the score you had from Hayden. Speaking Hayden, he was selling these oval shaped tokens that were some early form of credit...anyway...I tried to win one that had my name on it. I thought it was pretty cool and I wish I wouldn't have forgotten about the auction because I would have bid higher. I've bid in many of his auctions but have never won.
I haven't picked up much in the past several months, Jack Some major expenses have seriously eaten into my coin money, but I hope to rectify that, at least to some extent, at Baltimore. That plus the great pieces I got from Hayden's last auction cost me a bundle. Since my wife won't stop buying shoes, the only place to cut is you know where. If you're interested in some early metal charge cards, a friend of mine has about a half dozen he'd probably be willing to part with. He doesn't collect them nor does he have an interest in them. I'm sure he'd let them go at a reasonable price. He's going to Balto with me, so I'll see if he still has them. Bruce
