I just found this a couple of days ago, and I'm not sure about it. Does this look to you like it was struck through grease? There is a little evidence of it on the obvese, but the central design of the reverse is really lacking detail. The stars and legend, however, show little wear. Thanks
Jerome; More than polish, it appears to had had something done to it. If it had been struck thru grease, or some other object, then the design would be blurry in a specific area. Such as those famous Lincoln Cents that are missing one of the numbers in the date.
Mike. Sorry I just don't see struck through grease, there is damage to both the obverse and reverse on this Kennedy. Don't see how that could happen on both dies at the same time on this coin, might agree with you to a point on the reverse but the obverse looks like post mint damage. I have been wrong many times before however that my opinion. Bruce.
Here is a coin that I think is struck through grease or something. See how the LIBERTY is less pronounced than your coin. That is what makes me think it is not a struck through coin.
Looks very much like it is struck through grease to me, I don't suspect polish, as others have mentioned I have seen quite a few nickels with similar afflictions...
Hmm. I appreciate everyone's responses. I guess there aren't any definitive ways to tell on this one, or at least, not by looking at a picture of it online.
There is no doubt , as Mike has noted that the coin is struck through grease. That "strange" look to the surface on the obverse, is a sure sign. Thanks, Bill
Gentleman I apologize, after doing some more research and looking at several pictures of coins that were struck through grease. I have to agree with Mike and the others on there assessment of the Kennedy half that Bluegill asked about. Bruce.
Again, thanks very much for your responses. I haven’t found a coin like this before. The most error-ish things I’ve ever spotted have been very small die cracks. So even though this isn’t a big deal, it’s kind of exciting for me.
