I just thought I would post this interesting 1807 Bust Half O-111B. They call it the "Bearded" Half. I think it's a really cool piece! Shortgapbob: I hope that the Overton is listed on the slab, for the eventual buyer. That variety is usually much more obvious, unless this is a very early die state. The die crack from the chin to the chest is usually clearer. What do you think, Ben?
My thought's exactly, the die break is usually much more prominent. It'll still go pretty high though. Ben
I take it back, the 'thumbnail' photos in the middle of the description show the coin clearly, slabbed & unslabbed. And it lists the Overton #. So, I was wrong. But, I don't understand why the coin is so light in the 'raw' picture, and so dark when slabbed.
I don't find it particualarly beautiful. And why waste your money on a coin with a tiny die-crack in VF when you could get a normal AU coin for the same price ?
That's what coin collecting is all about. Here you have a "Rare Date, 1807" coupled with an even "Rarer Variety, Bearded Goddess." this baby is a real showpiece...
Jerome: In order to understand that (the variety) you really should pick up a copy of Overton's guide on Bust half dollars. Then buy a couple of them, and spend an afternoon attributing them. I guarantee that you'll be hooked.
