my 1943 Walking Liberty half dollar is damaged. the coin had a few spots of the evil green on the obverse, just above "In God We Trust." i attempted to removed the evil green with acetone and most of it came off. i examined the coin with a 10x loupe and discovered the surface of the coin is damaged. i feel like Taylor on the beach at the end of Planet of the Apes. why???!!!!!???? -Steve
Steve: Sorry to hear about your sad tale of woe (not sarcastic). PVC is very dangerous, as you have found out. Better luck next time.
i didn't pay for the coin, so i'm not out money, but it's sad to see an otherwise lovely coin damaged in such a way. it was easily an AU-58 - now it's an SGS MS-70, right -Steve
It's really a good news/bad news situation. The bad news, of course, is the damage you found under the PVC. The good news is that with the PVC removed, the damage won't spread any more.
damaged by the PVC. i received the coin in a cardboard 2x2 and knew i had to get the evil green off. once i got the large part off, i could see where it damaged the surface and has started to pit the coin. horray acetone, boo PVC -Steve
