So this is a rare weird find for me. The sides are cracked (die crack?) and the front is super smooth. So what do you think, error or mam made?
Well, I don't think it was turned on a lathe because we would see concentric circles, but I do believe that it is post-mint damage. Chris
I'm thinking the "seam" on the side was caused by whatever held it tightly enough to do the machining operation on the obverse. This is a classic example of a case where clearer knowledge of the minting process - what can and cannot happen at the Mint - would have been an invaluable diagnostic tool.
The radial or pinwheel scratches indicate that the obverse was machined. I don't know what kind of device creates this pattern, but I see it all the time.
I have a nickel tree in my back yard. Doesn't everybody? Been trying to get it to grow shield nickels, but no luck.
Wasn't it Macbeth? Spoiler alert but didn't McDuff kill Macbeth because he was "ripped from the womb" so he wasn't technically "born"?
