Ok, Ok, I am a cheap coin collector who gets burned sometimes. I wanted a Roman Republic coin and saw this one on e-bay and bought it cheap. Does it look fake? Is this a scan (yes, a scan, not a scam). heads.jpg tails.jpg

Looks like an imitation (to me) if it's not fake, would need weight and dimensions for authenticating.

No, I'm pretty sure it's just fake.

No weight or diameter given. Other photos taken on an angle showed some shine.

Returns are accepted, so should I wait to get it and measure it, or is it that obvious? I am oblivious, not obvious

In my experience with RR's, this does NOT look right to me. I agree with Doug. Personally, I would return it ASAP.

I know I should have posted it before bidding, but I'm getting smarter. Thanks.

Neither the style, nor the fabric look right to me. This one is absolutely not authentic and not ancient(i.e. not imitative). For those interested, this is the dealer: http://www.ebay.com/usr/noblespirit . Apparently a high-volume dealer of stamps but not anywhere near knowledgeable enough to sell ancients.

I gave it a "like" because of your OP-pun (scan versus scam)

    ;)

Too bad ... I hate seeing coin-brothers getting burned (good luck resolving the transaction)

    Cheers, Kentucky

ha ha ha...I told the vendor that I believed it was a fake and if he shipped it, I would just return it, so, just save us both the trouble and cancel the sale. The only thing that makes me feel bad is that he will probably offer it for sale again.

I've done that before. It's best for everyone involved.
