I'm not sure why people are trying to make it more complicated than it actually is. When you are in your paypal account and it says transaction completed, the money is in your paypal account to use. When it says this, paypal will say your item is ok to ship and that it is now covered by their seller protection. Do not send it out until then. If you want to pull the money out and send it to your bank account, it will take 3-4 days for your bank to get it. From there, your bank may put larger amounts on hold for up to a week...like getting a tax refund direct deposit. I've used paypal with and without ebay for 10+ years and have approximately 20 transactions per month.
Evidently you guys are all sellers. As a buyer, I use the "pay after delivery" option for a while now. It always shows up as "pending" with the date of withdrawal. It works like a charm. If I didn't get delivery before the withdrawal date, I would just cancel it. Pp has the sellers back. This way they also have the buyers back.
I just went through this 3 weeks ago. As long as I sold something on ebay, it was fine. I sold something on facebook and had to verify my accounts. PayPal verified them by making deposits into my bank account and I had to call them back with the amounts and times of the deposits. They told me that they would do 2 of somewhere between 1 and 99 cents. But when I checked my account, they had made 3. The money from the sale was there in PayPal but I couldn't claim it. It just showed a pending sale. And when I clicked on it, it would redirect me to a page telling me what I had to do to be able to claim the money.
I'm a frequent buyer as well and have used paypal on many non-ebay sites. I've never been prompted by a "pay after delivery" option. I'm not aware of any seller that would be open to that. With the paypal buyer and seller protections, there's no need for that option. Well, guess I learned something new about paypal. I'll have to watch more closely for that.
Pending, up to 21 days? I've only had this occur when I sold my first 5 items in an unverified paypal account. Honestly, after that point, all of my payments instantly showed up in my account, regardless if it was e-check or credit or directly from another person's paypal. Not sure what to tell you. I've been selling things off and on for over 3 years and all my received payments were instant (except for when I was verifying a new paypal).
Okay, thank you. I guess its not 100% verified because I dont want to link my bank or credit card to it. I talked to paypal and they said I should see the money transfer over within 3 days after the item is delivered. I don't like how they did this, but let hope it works.
It's standard with accounts that either have very little or no selling history with paypal and ebay, and a way to make sure there is no fraudulent/unusual activity. The money is tied to your account even if it's pending, but you can't withdrawal, spend, or send the money until the transaction shows the item was delivered (if there is no tracking number; it will take 21 days to go into your balance). When you share tracking info and it delivers quickly, the funds may only take 5-7 days after payment is made.
A wise choice, as long as you're willing to accept the resulting limitations. I had the impression that it was now basically impossible to use PayPal without linking one or the other.
That makes sense now. I wasn't aware of anyone that still used an unlinked version of Paypal. That's like using a burner phone so the cops can't track you down. If you're not willing to secure your paypal, they have to take extra steps to ensure there's no illegal activity going on. Mine is linked to my credit card. I've never had a hack or anything, but if I did, I'd be covered under my credit card's protection. So now that you know the reason, it's your choice to live with it or link up and get faster service.
Paypal fronts the buyer the money, pays the seller immediately, and debits the buyer's account later.
A lot of buyers use "pay after delivery" - I myself have used it and it seemed like the sellers immediately got the funds when purchasing. The money is later debited from my bank account even though the seller already had it in their paypal for 2 weeks.
I've had that happen a few times and although it said could take up to 21 days it usually cleared in a few days. I wouldn't send anything until it cleared but that's your decision to make.
If you're not willing to verify your Paypal account, you will see this every time. You're giving them no way to offer the buyer any security except for keeping your money until the buyer is satisfied.
Though Paypal is essentially messing with sellers on their monies. I've seen various things as I'm assuming Paypal is trying to profit off of holding funds or something. I really think they prefer that you keep money in your paypal account. I always transfer the money out of my paypal asap to my bank account. I bought a guitar from a 11,000+ seller with 99.8+ positive feedback (I'm over 300 with 100% feedback and 12 years on ebay/paypal). The money actually never withdraw from my account until AFTER the package was shown as delivered. The seller rec'd payment immediately after it was pulled from my account. I bought a bicycle seatpost. It was set to pending. The seller - it was their first time that paypal put them on pending actually cancelled the order since they preferred immediate payment. Both of us 100% and years with ebay/paypal. I've sold a $1200 item. I didn't receive payment until it was shown as delivered and satisfied. But then I sold a 1700 item and rec'd immediate payment and I immediately transferred to my bank account (as in I put in a 3-5 transfer but it showed up the same day I did the request). and I can provide so many other situations that make no sense what so ever with buyers/sellers I've sold to before and was conversing with. Both of us stumped. This policy has NOTHING to do with being a new member. It has everything to do with Carl Icahn forcing Paypal to split with eBay and to become as profitable as possible.
This really has nothing to do with the company split between ebay and paypal. When I began selling my first handful of items on ebay back in 2012, this is what I got on my paypal account. I kept a screenshot of what they told me to do in order to begin receiving instant payments in the future. If the OP doesn't see this or anything related on their account, maybe there are limitations of some sort placed on their account. I can't 100% vouch for them, but paypal does TELL you why something is the way it is. Even on paypal's website they explain that new accounts with little or no selling history will have the 21-day delay involved with payments. And ultimately this was long before ebay and paypal considered joining as one entity. Technically they are still connected in a way, more or less..
Sure ... my 2nd phone call when this started happening to me the other month went like this .. Me .. why is my payment pending Paypal .. you must be a new member Me .. I've been a member for over 10 years Paypal .. (they checked) okay, then you must have not been selling recently Me .. I've been selling a lot recently Paypal .. (check), okay. Then you must not have been selling items at this price Me .. I have been Paypal .. (checked) okay, then you must have had some bad reviews Me .. no, I haven't had any bad reviews Paypal .. (checked) ... well, we're just protecting you from yourself. [ yes, they actually said that ] Me ... whatever .. and I hung up. I called the next day and they released the pending payment with no questions. The first call on another item they released payment immediately. As mentioned I've had various situations in the last several months including instant payment to and from to my account which they NEVER do. So you can flip one of your toned, cleaned coins and see which way they go.
Depending on you reason for not wishing to provide them, an option worth considering may he to go to Walmart or wherever and buy a reloadable prepaid debit card, with which you can he verified and better protect your interests.
That is what I do. You have to call them and get your account number and routing number because they aren't the same as your card number, then verify your account with PayPal. I, like the OP had hesitation about putting my bank account into the cloud. I have had my debit card number stolen twice. And I very rarely use it. Another good thing about the prepaid card is if you use it to make coin purchases, temptation to spend over your extra cash, is abated.
Bingo.... and on the flip side, a certain entity can't can't remove money that isn't there. Nor can anyone who may get their hands on the card or number. Hell, you don't even need to call them; all can be done online.
That is the main reason why I don't want to link my debit card to it. I'm at college right now and card numbers get swipped all the time here because kids know how to put skimmers on the washing machines, dryers, vending machines,... basically anything where you use a card to make a purchase.
