82 zinc. Weird finish.

    i have a few like this. some look like wood grain, some more dotted in appearance, what causes this?

    Looks like plating bubbles. Try using a toothpick to push and pop them as a learning experience

    I wonder what causes this, and if these will corrode in time.

    You also have a nice die crack on the Rev. from the Memorial to the rim on the right side.

    Fairly common on 1982 cents. It was a new process and they were working out the kinks.

    Working out the kinks for 33 years?? So the Mint is incompetent?

    No, just whoever chose the composition of the coin. The Mint does the best they can with planchets that really, really want to corrode.

    That's why it's common on 1982 cents. I got no excuses for plating bubbles after then.
