Sometimes when I "play" with a coin,I take a look at its image and realize, "wow, that image does suck."

    Here are three images...

First one is the old seller's image. The second is my first attempt. The coin has a very dark chocolate patina and smooth surfaces, so I attempted to artificially brighten the coin, now I don't like it. The last image is the newest image, much darker but in my opinion a better representation.

I agree with Jwt. Too dark-- can't see many details.

details look sharper to me on the third, even though it is kind of dark still. would i white background make any difference?

I really don't care for the white back ground. I don't think coins look as lively.

I like black backgrounds most of the time, but for a coin so dark, I think white would look better.

#3 has the best lighting - I'd just tweak the luminosity up a bit. Does #3 represent the actual color?

I like the 3rd the best. Even if it is a bit dark it may represent the feel of the coin best.
However, my monitor is set quite bright. I Agree the current depiction may lessen details a bit. I played aroundto expand the histogram a bit: Original.jpg

    then becomes:
    HistExpanded.jpg
You can see in the background that local contrasts in the dark parts are most enhanced.

I like the black, but it needs to be just a bit lighter.

I prefer black. I know what you mean about white. Compromise - Grey?
Or do what THC did. That is brilliant!
