    Orfew Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus

Just won this lot. A nice unusual Domitian denarius minted very early in his reign as augustus.

I know there is recent Domitian thread, but please go ahead and post your examples here as well.

Domitian. AR denarius (18.1 mm, 3.36 g, 7 h). Rome mint, struck A.D. 81. IMP CAESAR DOMITIANVS AVG, laureate head right / TR P COS VII, draped throne, back decorated with grain ears. RIC 3 (R); BMCRE 2; RSC 554a.

I really like that early portrait when Domitian still looked like his father and brother. Later his portrait started moving in a formal direction. Your coin honors Jupiter; mine Neptune. re1460b01576lg.jpg

Great coin Orfew! That throne type with the triangular frame is much rarer than the other pulvinaria types struck for Domitian. Yours is much nicer than my example. Congrats!

If someone had started a thread about the upcoming auction then you may not have missed it TIF....
    Its a double edged sword.

Specious argument. It's not a double-edged sword at all, or were you making a joke.? I had an alarm on my phone set to remind me about it... but I left the phone at home.

LOL @TIF I keep thinking of our prior discussions in past threads on pronouncing Latin! Your "specious" would be pronounced "spaykeeo'oos" in Republican Rome. :) Just randomly razzing you! :D
