On www.sixbid.com exciting auction coming up. Beautifull Electrum Hektes from Phokia/Mytilene/Lesbos. High quality material, nicely illustrated.

Good luck. That would never work for me. She would get me a cheap chocolate bunny instead. But she does love me.

Terrific pieces! It's always a coin-collector's dilemma ... So many beautiful coins, but you just can't buy them all. My love for ancient coins extends far beyond my Roman one-per-ruler theme, but i need to set guidelines for myself to ensure some fiscal discipline.

I'd a marvelous auction, isn't it? I've got my eye on a Roman Republic didrachm and a denarius of the Marsic Confederation, though they will probably go for well over my budget. But it is fun to dream:joyful:

    TIF Always learning.

There are some very desirable coins in the Roma XI auction.

Everyone: it is poor etiquette to post coins which are coming up for auction. Other members may be planning to bid and drawing attention to their targets might create unwanted competition. Plus, if that person then bids on the coin and wins, it looks like they "stole" the coin from another member. Also, there are far more lurkers than posters on these boards.

Posting fixed-price coins is a different story. Doing so only poses a risk that the person posting the coin might lose his or her chance at buying it if someone else acts first.

Wonderful coins....but that's stretching my remaining budget more than little bit. Oh well, there's always next month.

TIF makes a good point. We're inadvertently singling out and advertising desirable coins and potentially increasing bidding competition. So yeah, let's not.

    For me, it's ok!

TIF is right when he said that it could give the impression that a member has 'stolen' the coin of someone else if the coin in question has been previously posted here.

However I think that these kind of auctions (like those of other important auction houses) are screened by so many people that there is little chance to avoid competition on interesting coins... alas!:arghh::arghh::arghh:

PS: I would like to remove the links above but it seems like I cannot edit my message...

Yes, I am looking at two coins in that auction. I was happy not to see mine in that group.
