Nice. Conder's book lists a total of twelve varieties (both Redfield and non-Redfield) of the Paramount holder... 1 - Black, Redfield, no grade (circulated) 1a - Black, non Redfield, no grade (circulated) 2 - Black, Redfield, MS60 2 - Black, Redfield, MS63 2a - Black, non Redfield, MS60 2a - Black, non Redfield, MS63 2b - Black, non Redfield, MS63 - Blue Dymo Label for grade 3 - Red, Redfield, MS65 3a - Dark Red (wide name), non Redfield, MS65 3a1 - Light Red (narrow name), non Redfield, MS65 4 - Green, Redfield, Graded MS65+ 4a - Green, non Redfield, MS65+ Conder notes: The numerical grades were unusual at the time (most grading was UNC, BU, Gem BU). Most of the MS65s would not grade that level 'today' (in 2001-2003 timeframe). MS61, 62 and 64 were not in use, and by implication of the 65+ green inserts that 66..70 also were not in use.
I've seen PCGS and NGC grade these and put them in their own slabs with the label notation "Redfield Hoard." Will they grade them and put a label on the original Hallmark holder, like they do with GSA Hoard Morgans?
Yes, ngc uses their ribbon. Not sure what pcgs does though if they do indeed grade them in the ogp. Do they use a custom shell like pcgs gsa's? Hmm.. I'm guessing pcgs cracks it out and labels it but I'm not sure Burton, I've seen black but haven't seen green Redfield's before
I don't intend to hijack any thread, but I have another commonality. Here I have the same coin, year, mint, seller, and grade. I thought some might want to compare to the poster's MS65 Redfield coin. View attachment 487092 View attachment 487093
Green are very, very rare. i've seen one. Remember, back then MS65 was considered the best grade possible, 70 was unattainable perfection. It was only when you looked at 100,000+ coins that a small # stood out. For GSA $s, PCGS has an oversized shell that completely encloses the GSA shell, but I have not seen something similar for Redfield/Paramount. In fact from both PCGS and NGC I've seen regular shells with the notation in the label.
Ok guys, 63 it is... but she's got nice semi-pl surfaces on both sides. I must say though that even with my cellphone camera and no special lighting it was hard to take a pic that didn't hide the marks to show it's true grade. Strange though as its usually the opposite. Maybe the semi-pl surfaces have something to do with it? How do you like the images? They're from my new lg v10. I usually take them from my note 3. The v10 tends to save them at around triple the file size so I'm guessing it's better with more detail. (not a camera guy)
Burton, I know ngc ribbons them. Heck, they ribbon graded charmy's golf ball display cube that she housed her multi capped die splash Lincoln in. You can request either is my guess just like the gsa's. And thanks for that, now I want a green Redfield! I just hope one passes my eyes when I have the cash. I'm guessing many didn't get the green? And of coarse many were probably cracked out before the ogp premium kicked in
You're asking me, the perpetual last-place photographer, to judge your images? Actually, they aren't bad at all.
