Thought I'd have another set of eyes look at this, not my coin.... Feather detail extremely mushy, broken O of one reverse Guy claims he bought it 3 years ago.
The date definitely looks bad. I know for sure it is fake though due to the position of the last feather in the headband. Pre 1886 the feather should have pointed between the I and C, not the C and A.
Thx guys, I'm always willing to get educated on a coin... Now I can pass the info on to this guy. Although I feel really bad, I wonder if he will confront the dealer that sold him this thing.3 years have since passed so, it ain't looking good..... He says $250 is what he paid
That stinks, but a $250 lesson is still pretty cheap in the scheme of things. I had to pay more than twice that for parking my car in the wrong spot before. Based on the price, I would guess the dealer knew it was fake. I would have seriously questioned the price as well, because when you're getting something for significantly below market value, something is generally off.
Yeah the date is way out of line. The digits are closer on a real 72. A good fake to the untrained eye.
