Spock1k,that 8 Annas is quite a scarce coin,in the sense that it is very hard to find.I have got a 4 Annas, but not yet an 8 Annas (or 1/2 Rupee). Aidan.
here's a bit of info Also..your coin was minted in Calcutta because it has no 'dot' near the bottom of the coin on the reverse
Are you sure the price is only .50 cents. I wouldthink its a rare coin and worth much more. People at the cicf were asking 50 bucks for the coin
Brother Aidan, how about ypu pm and make me an offer i cant refuse ont hat 8 anna coin. i ended up paying 40 bucks on it . i really need to let go of this craziness and buy the krause new edition is out in 9 days time. anyone know a good place to buy ti cheap
I think it is a extreemly fine example of a 8a but $40 is way too much for it, highest I would have gone I think would have been about £6, would agree with Aidan about them been relitivly hard to find though. :thumb:
They are scarce, but Indian coins are not priced high, so $40 is way higher than most would go. Oh well...just hope you get half of that back..
Spock, dont be disheartened.. This coin is worth $40 now.. Infact, you cannot buy this coin lesser than this amount anywhere in ebay.. And here in India, it is worth about $50 in this condition. The 1920 coin is really tough to get and it will easily fetch you around $110 in any condition.. A UNC of this 1919 coin will worth around $55.. I'm talking about the present market price and not the catalogue price. Be careful about the fakes.. I've noted a lot of fakes for this coin in the auction sites of Poland.
If you are too much worried about this coin, give it to me.. just kidding.. My advice is.. you keep this wonderful coin... you wont regret it.. :thumb:
spiral other than the diameter and the weight. is there any other way of knowing the coin is a fake? Thanks
Well... Just see that there is some casting dips or bumps, especially in the letters. The 'A' in the 'Annas' will almost always reveal whether it is genuine or not. I've attached picture of a good fake here..
Hooray mine is genuine i saw the A's and i know what you mean but mine are clear. The final result is of course pending on judgement by PCGS
