...maybe you shouldn't go out of your way to take pics of the edge that CLEARLY show a seam, lol. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ancient-sil...429738?hash=item2a632b9faa:g:LBsAAOSwh-1W5EG- See the last two images.
To be fair, I doubt he knows it is a fake if he is showing an indicator. I do not know ancients enough to know that is a fake either.
Ah, Besides being a cast fake, and a alleged 'Provincial TET,' I was wondering why it so badly resembled Marcus Aurelius....
You don't really have to know anything about ancients to spot an obvious cast. There are bubbles on the surfaces, a seam around the edge, and all the devices are soft, with too much detail to be circulation wear.
So, what, you think he should be more like this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ancient-Roman-silver-denarius-Marcus-Aurelius/182058001548 ? At least this one is actually Marcus Aurelius, lol.
look at this gem from the same seller! http://www.ebay.com/itm/coin-ancien...934508?hash=item2812abb42c:g:tX4AAOSwX~dWm~KV
Just so we don't lose this valuable source of laughter, here are those images: Another "Aegina" from the same seller, albaprince2000: ...and another "Aegina" (and there are more!): Not in to Greeks, you say? How about a nice "Caligula denarius" for only $800?
To be fair, non-native English speakers might have a problem remembering whether it's "not sure" or "sure not".
Please compare my coin in the upper right. Perhaps I could improve it with a hammer and other tools to match its die mate or should I just ask $8000 for it as a better specimen? This is the Slavey. They were easy to get in the 90's but I only bought the ones in the photo at $4 each. Foolish me. I bought real coins none of which went up as much as this one. I seem to have lost the individual images from which I made this group. Sorry.
Those are mighty convincing. I most certainly would have paid the price and probably wouldn't have known the difference till someone pointed out to me.
There seems to be absolutely no policing of fake coins on eBay - as there is with fake Louis Vuitton or fake Gucci fashion items. I only buy from a few trusted professional coin dealers on eBay. Almost everything else that is offered is either junk or fake.
