Oh my gosh, I think I remember that! The store I'm thinking of was called "Two Guys", in west-central Maryland. Actually, I just realized that I saw one of these cases just a year or two ago, at a big indoor flea market in Myrtle Beach, SC. Loaded with mediocre coins at astronomical prices. The owner said "those prices are HIGHLY negotiable", but I didn't have time for that.
Here's the other one. No flip/insert with this one, but the last owner says it came from the same pedigree. (Can't prove it, though).
You know me. Seated Liberty on back. If there's not a 17 or 18 in the first 2 date digits I don't get very interested usually
That S mint Buff obverse has the most eye appeal I think I've ever seen (for a nickel) And, I feel the color premium is worth more than the gold bean premium would be
Beautiful, beautiful coin. $600 might be an insulting offer. Heck, my wife has put a moratorium on my coin purchasing, but if that coin went for $600 I would risk her ire. I looked up the 15-S. Man, $1,250 for an AU-55. That is pretty steep, even for that toning. Steve
I don't set the prices on my consignments, but it's already gotten an offer for close to 1k, which he told me to turn down. I think he loves it too much (and so do I, for that matter).
No, the nearly 1k offer was on the AU55 gold CAC, not the MS65 one. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But on the 1915 MS65, the gold CAC signifies that John Albanese already thinks it's at least a top tier 66, so while retail PCGS price guide for a 66+ grade may be a stretch, I can see where it isn't THAT much of a stretch. I mean, the coin has color, luster, an OGH, and a gold CAC. While most collectors just care about the 66 or 66+ being on the holder (for their registry sets, etc), there are still a lot of collectors who would rather have a coin in this presentation, as opposed to one in a new pcgs holder.
Both beauties. And the gold bean on an eye appealing stunner is like gold. I got well over double greysheet bid for a well provenanced pr 63 gold cac dime. With great toning I got strong 65 money coins like this will always bring a premium. And they'll always sell as long as there's people like me and other like minded out there that want a great coin not just something to fill a hole in an album or a set
