1816 Cent, what happened to you?

Soliciting opinions on this Coronet Head Cent.
- struck with a retired die?
- PMD?
- no clue?

The wavy line that goes to the bottom of the 1 is a Newcomb variety, I believe.

It looks like PMD to me.

if you look closely at the straight lines you may be able to see cut marks which created the crosshatch look.

I'd say somebody got bored and hit it with a hammer, then scratched it with a knife a few times.

 

PMD of several types and wear, wear, and more wear.

Pretty much what I was thinking, although the lines appear wide, which could be from the metal getting hammered after "scratched".

 

It was defaced.
