My AV Dinar from Mamluk Sultan Baybars I Alexandria Mint Mamluks were the first ever to defeat the fearsome Mongol Army in Battle. Also Baybars took many Crusader strongholds including Krak Des Chevaliers in Syria. On his coins, the "Lion" symbolizes his military prowess.
I see your dinar and raise you .. 27 mm x 6.14 grams Khwarezmshah 'Ala al-Din Muhammad, 1200-1220. Obverse center: "There is no god but Allah alone / Muhammad is the prophet of Allah / al-Nasir li-Din Allah (name of 'Abbasid caliph) / commander of the faithful". Obverse margin, Qur'an 9:33 (or portion thereof) "who sent him with guidance and a religion of truth in order that he might cause it to shine above all religion though the polytheists dislike it". Reverse center: "The sultan / the very great, nobility of the world / and of the faith, father of victory, Muhammad / son of [the] sultan, proof / of the commander of the faithful". Reverse margin, mint (not visible but similar examples at zeno.ru are attributed to Firuzkuh) and date (61x) formula. The title "burhan amir al-mu'minin" ("proof of the commander of the faithful") makes your coin Album 1712B, rated RR, rather than the 'standard' type 1712, rated common. (thanks Dave)
